"Psychotic Episodes" is an original album featuring music and lyrics entirely written, performed, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Warren Bullock of Echoes of Janus. The title reflects the duality and chaos of both life and the music itself. Currently, the artist is collaborating with his band on another album, but he aimed to create this one completely on his own.
The album comprises 9 songs for 42 minutes of music and Alligator starts with a super catchy guitar riff and an intricate rhythm section. The song opens during the chorus, very melodic and radio-friendly. A great opener, very enjoyable, and has a tasty guitar solo too. Raindance is a little different, very 70s (Led Zeppelin!) with acoustic guitars and energetic vocals. Hollow Ground is an energetic mid-tempo, with distorted guitar and a fun chorus, a little unusual, and reminds me of Extreme in some bits. Would you has some Soundgarden vibes, a hypnotic guitar riff, and an unexpected change towards the end. I like the melodic vocal lines of Bette, very unusual with some Tom Waits vibes and very cool bass parts.
Among the other songs, I love the super heavy riffs and the solo of Beat You to Death, the atmosphere and the mood of Japan, with very cool percussion, riffs (as always), and fun lyrics. At the bottom of the album, we find the street rock mood of Celestial Bureaucracy (very good vocals!) and the lo-fi fun mood of Please Send Us Some Love, with some Van Halen vibes and a very inspired solo section.
"Psychotic Episodes" is a very cool album, energetic, catchy, well written, performed and produced as well. Overall fun to listen to, with amazing guitar parts and lots of contaminations. Give it a go by clicking on the Spotify player below and remember to follow Echoes of Janus on social media.
