FloodHounds - One Horse Race

‘One Horse Race’ is the brand new song from South Yorkshire trio FloodHounds, which hurtles between moments of catchy British indie melodicism to vigorous desert rock heaviness. It was recorded at The Magic Garden Studio with producers Gavin Monaghan & Liam Radburn.

"This song is about that gut-wrenching moment of choosing between the familiar and the unknown. Sometimes the 'safe' path leads to nowhere, while the riskier option, though terrifying, offers the chance of something else entirely. Ultimately, doing nothing and never taking the risk, is the biggest gamble of all. It guarantees you'll never experience the thrill of victory or the sting of defeat, leaving you with a lifetime of 'what ifs’

The title comes from the opening line of the song, ‘Am I the only one here out of place, riding the wrong way in a one horse race?’ “It reflects the sometimes isolating experience of modern life, where constant exposure to others' curated journeys can paralyze your decision-making,” says songwriter and guitarist Jack Flynn. “One Horse Race encourages listeners to embrace the uncertainty and risk inherent in charting their own path, even if it feels like you're an outlier,” he adds.

I love the energy of the song and its straightforward structure. It's a quality song from every point of view, including production and arrangement, with a classy and dynamic rhythm section, robust guitars, and catchy vocals (the chorus is fantastic!) as well. It's a very cool one. Give it a go by clicking on the Spotify player below, and remember to follow FloodHounds on social media.
