Apewards is a stoner/blues rock power trio from Marburg, Germany. After two EPs and countless gigs, the successful first album, Tales of Cloud Forest, was released in 2016. followed by the second LP, We the Living, in 2019. After founding member Vincent Krause left the band in 2019, the remaining trio of Nico Gehle, Lukas Plümpe, and Frank Eckerle had to reinvent themselves. This process resulted in two EPs, Peaks, Vol. 1 and Peaks, Vol. 2, where the influences of blues and stoner rock slowly receded, while fuzz-distorted guitars and psych-rock influences became more evident. In the summer of 2022, Apewards locked themselves in at the unique Studio Red Roof Loftsound to record their first album in the new-old formation, Akrasia.
This is their new song and video, Becoming, just released. The song starts with high-paced drumming and a blues guitar (what a sound!). I love the production and the overall performance, energetic but with lots of melody as well (the chorus is super catchy) and with a 70s solo section. A quality song, enjoyable from start to finish, amazingly written and performed by the band.
