Mission To Sleep, a band from Boston, Massachusetts, just released their debut album, A Spark or The End (beautiful album cover above), a natural progression which succeeds two acclaimed EPs – Post Youth (2022) and White Death (2023). After selling out shows, contributing to indie film soundtracks, and gaining buzz from fans, radio, and press, Mission To Sleep is excited to partner with Mind Over Matter Records for the release of A Spark or The End digitally and on limited edition vinyl.
The album features 7 tracks for 25 minutes of music. It opens with No Anchor, released previously as a single. I love the pace and the mood of the first one, with a dynamic rhythm section, a fantastic solo section and super catchy vocals (the chorus will get stuck in your head). Check out the video below, quality as well.
Designer Graves was the first single released before the full-length album. A little less immediate but with another catchy chorus and a quality arrangement. Carousel Teeth features standout vocals from Sarah Jeanne (Aversed). We have (again) a fantastic chorus on this one (a band's trademark) mixed with aggressive parts. A great combo, extremely interesting and amazingly performed. The other guest is Christopher Preece (Inspirit, Vanna), and he sings in Like Heaven. I love the rhythm section on this one. Fall into bloom has more relaxed vibes, with very melodic vocals but still with a robust sound underneath.
This Massacre is probably my favourite song on the album. Again, I love the contrast between the heavy music and the melodic vocals, and the song features a fantastic chorus, with peculiar and original vocal lines. The final track, Bury The Ghost, is very atmospheric during the verses, but it gets more intense toward the end.
A Spark or The End is a remarkable album, meticulously crafted in its production details and brilliantly performed by the band. Each song features captivating choruses and impeccably arranged songs. It's a great and original contrast between heavy music and pop music and I find it overall extremely original and interesting.
