Bedlam Rebels are a rock & roll band from San Diego, California. Sean Macomber and Chris Eaton formed the band, and Chris Sporleder, a friend and prior member, gave it its name. The band's music combines recognisable rock & roll twang with a contemporary alternative edge. Sean and Chris, bandmates, have been performing together since they were adolescents. They met in maths class in high school and began their musical marriage, which continues to this day.
Their new album is called Losers, Beggars and Lovers and comprises 11 songs for 45 minutes. The opener Born a masochist, is a very energetic start, with pounding drums, inspired guitars (solo!) and catchy vocals. A great start with a rock n roll, no frills, attitude. Great drum intro and obscure riff for track number 2, Through the Night, with a grunge soul, same as the verses of Say Goodbye, but with an open chorus, very radio friendly and catchy. This is definitely one of my favourite songs on the album, with a great solo section too.
I love the fuzzy guitars/riffs of Ridin' The Line, the pace and the mood of I Can't Always Be Around, Runnin' Again, and Killer in My Head, in between Bad Religion and The President of United States of America, with tasty bass lines and vocal harmonies. Write Me Off and Out of Control are more on the indie side (with some hint of Stones), extremely easy listening and more melodic than the rest of the content. Fall to the Ground, the closing track, changes the mood again, with an almost lo-fi track, before the energetic change towards the end. A great finale with the usual great guitar solo.
Losers, Beggars and Lovers is a very enjoyable album, inspired and fun to listen to, with lots of different moods and contaminations. The band's performance is spot on and the sound is right for the genre. Give it a go by clicking on the Spotify player below and follow Bedlam Rebels on Instagram.
