Caroline in the Garden - Violet

Under the artistic leadership of singer-songwriter and producer Caroline Milby, the project Caroline in the Garden combines orchestral synth and vintage piano parts to create a captivating atmosphere full of melodramatic gloomy themes.

Caroline's path from her beginnings in the Philadelphia art-rock band Weird Hot to her present solo endeavour in Atlanta has turned her into a compelling artist set for success. She draws inspiration from Bowie, Bush, Byrne, and 90s piano superstars. Their debut EP is scheduled to be released on January 23, 2025.

This is their latest single, "Violet." This is a cover of Hole's 1994 album "Live Through This," one of my favorite albums in its genre. I love it when cover versions have a heavy personal touch and this is the case. This is an unplugged/relaxed (a little melancholy, also) version, piano-based, of the heavy song you remember. It starts with piano only and then gets more intense, thanks to a classy arrangement and a spot-on performance. The production also does very well, and this version of Violet is extremely interesting.
