Ringo Starr - Look Up (2025)

I'm here to talk about the new album Look Up by this young man, Ringo Starr, who is eighty-four years old. In 1970, the former drummer for the Fab Four released a country album called Beaucoups of Blues in Nashville with pedal steel musician Pete Drake. On Look Up, released fifty-five years later, he makes a comeback to the genre alongside veteran Dylan guitarist T Bone Burnett.

The album is comprised of 11 songs for 37 minutes of music. Energetic start with Breathless, a good upbeat opener with a familiar drumming style (if you know Ringo) and very cool guitars. The title track slows down a bit and it features a catchy chorus. Time On My Hands is relaxing and I like the guitar work, with a fantastic arrangement and solos, same for I Live for Your Love, in a duet with Molly Tuttle, a young American folk singer and guitarist, present in Can You Hear Me Call and String Theory as well. Speaking of guests, Alison Krauss (who collaborates often with another living legend like Robert Plant) is present in the closing track, Thankful.

I would have preferred a more energetic album, just like the opener or the bluesy You Want Some, but musicians like Ringo Starr are entitled to do whatever they want, especially at this age. So huge respect for him and this new release.
